Fellowship Trained Sports Medicine

Dr. Mathew is a dual fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in both pediatric and adult sports medicine. He is one of only a few in the country that has this unique training. During his fellowships, he received comprehensive training for medical and surgical care of sports-related injuries and conditions. He has taken care of athletes at every level from high school, collegiate, professional, and Olympic.

As a sports medicine physician, Dr. Mathew has a special interest in sports injuries and arthroscopic repair and reconstruction of the shoulder, hip, knee, elbow, and ankle in adults and pediatric patients. As an avid athlete himself, he understands the importance of getting his patients back to their top performance.

He serves as a team physician for Desoto High School, LIFE High School, Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), and Navarro College, in addition to assisting at many other local schools. Dr. Mathew continues to be involved in research and education. He has authored several publications and book chapters and also loves to teach the athletic trainers, residents, and fellows that work with him.

Dr. Mathew grew up in Coppell, TX and earned his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Texas. He worked as an engineering consultant before returning to medical school. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at University of Texas Southwestern working at renowned institutions such as Parkland Memorial Hospital and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. This also included time as a chief resident in England’s National Health Service and at Tenwek Missionary Hospital in Kenya. He then went on to do a fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York where he served as an assistant team physician for the New York Jets and New York Islanders. He then completed a second fellowship focusing on pediatric sports medicine at Harvard Medical School’s Boston Children Hospital.

One of Dr. Mathew’s passions is medical missions and has served both locally and abroad with organizations such as OrthoNations, LIFE, and Samaritan’s Purse.

In his free time, Dr. Mathew loves playing football, basketball, soccer, and music. He also loves hiking and traveling with his wife and son.
